In 2020, like many other organizations, YSC had to find a way to pivot.

The entire world experience tremendous change and uncertainty when the pandemic hit, but Youth Singers of Calgary rose to the challenge and re-envisioned the 2020-2021 season program delivery in response to ever-changing provincial COVID restrictions. This experience brought out our creative, out-of-the-box thinking to a new level.

In place of our regular two-term/semester season (including two mainstage productions at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium) our 20-21 season was divided into a three-episode web series:

Episode #1: Premiered December 2020. Rehearsals took place in person and remote, and singers filmed their performances both at home and at APAC individually and in small groups.

Episode #2: Premiered March 2021. All learning and rehearsals took place remotely, with filming one on one at APAC

Vocal rehearsals took place over zoom with Directors streaming live out of APAC. For the entire 2020-21 season we could not sing together in person.

Episode #3: Premiered June 2021. We were ready to resume small group in-person rehearsals when the third wave restrictions brought us back to remote learning and filming where not even one on one sessions were permitted. When we planned Episode #3, we fully believed it would be live.

The “On With The Show” season, and each Episode premiere was a celebration of the YSC Community who have worked together as a team to realize our goals. Families, performers, artistic faculty – with the support of our talented team of administrators – problem solved, pivoted, and worked together to bring an entire season to life.
